From 1 August 2012 to 31 March 2015 Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) is responsible for providing museum development support in the North East region. TWAM is one of nine providers funded through Arts Council England (ACE) to drive development and deliver sustainability, resilience and innovation in England's regional museums.
The Museum Development Programme provides one point of access for professional advice and guidance and delivers a range of projects and opportunities across areas such as audience development, collections management, learning, marketing, governance and environmental sustainability. All activity is focussed on creating a stronger North East museum sector and setting in place the building blocks for achieving this.
Support is available to Accredited museums and those ‘actively working towards’ Accreditation, and is delivered through the following key strands of activity:
- Direct and tailored support
- Targeted project activity aligned to Arts Council’s 5 strategic goals
- Small Grants Scheme
- Regional projects and research
- Support for Accreditation (working with the Regional Accreditation Adviser)
The Museum Development Programme is managed by Sarah Carr, Senior Museum Development Officer. All enquiries should be directed to Sarah in the first instance who will provide support directly or signpost museums to other expertise as appropriate.
