Arbeia Festival
11am - 4pm
This year’s festival has a Roman theme: gladiators, soldiers, falconry, pottery and much much more!
Roman re-enactment group Quinta will show you what military life was really like on the Fort in the 3rd century AD.
Let the Roman Army put your little soldiers through their paces at boot camp and find out more about the might of the Roman Empire. Watch in awe as Gladiators battle it out in the arena… their fate is in your hands! Shows in the arena at 1pm and 3.15pm.
Meet Rufus, a slave in the workshop of Master Potter, Gaius Bellicus. As a Master Potter, Gaius makes the moulds whilst Rufus prepares the clay and uses the moulds to replicate his master’s work. Since Gaius is away at market, children are invited to help Rufus and make small items they can take away.
Join Guarderobe to discover the rituals of births, marriages and deaths in the Roman period with replica materials for hands-on fun! Join them at 12.30pm and 2.30pm for a grisly session on Roman burials!
Tickets: Adults £5, Children £3 (under 5s free), Family ticket (4 people) £12
