BSL Guided Tours
What is the Our Way project?
'Our Way' is a 2 year project that started in May 2005 when the North East Regional Museums Hub held a consultation day which revealed that Deaf people prefer information to be delivered direct by a Deaf person, in their own language.
As a result, we have recruited Deaf volunteers to work with Tyne & Wear Museums to create and deliver BSL tours in museums and galleries across the North East.
'Our Way' is for you and you have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of local history through BSL guided tours, handling objects from the collections and events and activities. In the past, every time you attended a museum there was always a language barrier between English and your first or native BSL. My responsibility is to ensure that you get equal access to museums and galleries through the 'Our Way' project.
