Ralph Beilby (1743-1817)
Illustration on the Title Page 'The Marriage of the Coquet and the Alwine'
Print
This design is similar to the bookplate Ralph Beilby engraved for John Brand but in this version the landscape is darker, more overgrown and decayed. It decorates the title page in the book 'The Marriage of the Coquet and the Alwine' by an unknown author, published in 1817 for John Adamson (1787-1855) of Newcastle. The Coquet and Alwine are rivers in Northumberland. The design appears yet again on the title page of 'Bibliotheca Lusitana', another book printed for Adamson in 1818.
