Ralph Beilby  (1743-1817)

Kepple's Freedom Box (1779)
Freedom Box

This gold oval box was made by the Newcastle silversmiths, Langlands and Robinson. It was engraved by Ralph Beilby in 1798, just a year before the break-up of his business partnership with Thomas Bewick. It is inscribed on the detachable lid 'Admiral of the Blue, The Hon. Augustus Kepple in recognition of his distinguished service.' This is a rare gold snuff box made in Newcastle.
