Fables - A Film Opera
Step into a magical world of legend and folklore with Streetwise Opera!
4 Composers, 4 film makers, 4 fables and starring 125 performers who have experienced homelessness.
Discovery Museum welcomes Fables – A Film Opera, a group of four short films created by some of the UK’s leading composers and filmmakers working with 125 Streetwise performers who have all experienced homelessness. Together they have created films based on fables ranging from the classic The Boy Who Cried Wolf to the famous North East legend of The Hartlepool Monkey. Around 40 Streetwise performers from Newcastle (The Cyrenians, Tyne Housing Association and Streetwise Choir) and Middlesbrough (STAGES Academy) were involved.
Streetwise Opera (winner of The Times/Gramophone Music in the Community Award, RoyalPhilharmonic Society Award and Andy Ludlow Homelessness Award) uses music as a tool to help people who have experienced homelessness move forward in their lives. We do this through a weekly music programme in 11 homeless centres around England and by staging professional opera and film productions.
Shown continuously as part of the ‘Newcastle Story’ display every day during May at Discovery Museum.
