Welcome to Egypt

What would your dad have been like back in Ancient Egyptian times? Well, he wouldn't have had a grizzly beard for a start. Back in ancient Egypt it was considered unpleasant to have a beard so they always shaved. Your dad might have grown a moustache if he was around during a brief period of 'The Middle Kingdom' (2040-1640 BC) when it was fashionable, but most men shaved off all of their facial hair.

In Egypt, there were no disposable razors; instead early Egyptians shaved with sharpened rocks tied to wooden handles. In later times the Egyptians made razors from fine copper and bronze.
