Great North Museum: Hancock

The exhibition has been researched, curated and marketed by a group of young people. The exhibition features objects found in the collection, which were chosen by the young people with no particular focus in mind, other than curiosity.

The aim of the exhibition is to display the world cultures collection in a new and engaging way to excite and inspire young people about world cultures and museums in general.

Journeys of Discovery is the North East strand of Stories of the World: a London 2012 initiative to encourage young people to delve into local museum collections. Using the voyages of local explorer Captain Cook as inspiration, over 100 young people from Durham, Middlesbrough and Newcastle have travelled through the world collections of North East museums, challenging how objects are seen, understood and displayed.
