The Starry Messenger
13 Mar
11am - 3.45pm (four shows during the day, each lasting 45 minutes)
Visitors are invited to travel back in time to 1609 and take part in a presentation to mark the 400th anniversary of the publication The Starry Messenger, in which Galileo announced his amazing discoveries of the night skies using a telescope which he claimed to have invented!
The interactive presentation is by LM Interactive and the story is narrated by Galileo's friend Philippo Sallviati, with period style experiments and audience participation. The presentation, in three acts, ends back in the 21st century with use of more modern technology to demonstrate exactly what Galileo did, and what he saw. The programme may be complemented by a visit to the planetarium in the Great North Museum: Hancock.
Pick up a free ticket at the Museum reception on the day.
