The Great Science Debates Commemorating the 350th Anniversary of the Royal Society
Do you believe in global warming? Should scientists intervene in order to protect us from its consequences? Join us for a stimulating evening of debate with audience participation. The speakers will outline key aspects of the subject as they see it, capturing controversial opinions and engaging with different perspectives. Open discussion between the panellists and the audience will explore the issues raised, develop further points and generate thought-provoking and informal discussion. At the end of the evening the audience will vote on the subject.
Chaired by Professor John Shepherd FRS, Research Fellow in Earth System Science, National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton. Deputy Director of Tynedall Centre for Climate Change Research.
Speakers include Dr Douglas Parr, Chief Scientist and Policy Director at Greenpeace UK. Professor Paul L. Younger, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Engagement at Newcastle University. Professor Steve Rayner, James Martin Professor of Science and Civilization and Director of the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. Honorary Professor of Climate Change and Society at the University of Copenhagen.
