Cacti and other xerophytes: tales from the Dry Lands

A talk by the Natural History Society of Northumbria.
An illustrated talk about groups of plants found in Earth’s arid regions. It will deal with their geographical origin, evolution and adaptations, and also with some interesting uses of xerophytes and how they are cultivated. There will be specimens to examine. Dr Wake graduated and then worked at Newcastle University with a PhD in ethnopharmacological science - investigating plants reputed for hundreds of years as memory stimulants for their potential as novel dementia treatments.
The talk takes place at 7pm, in the Clore Learning Suite on the ground floor of the Great North Museum: Hancock.
