2500 - 1500 BC:   THE MINOANS

1700 BC:   The Minoan civilization on Crete is at its height.

The first Greek writing, known as linear B, is developed.

1100 BC:  The end of Mycenaean civilization.

1100 - 900 BC:  THE DARK AGES

900 - 700 BC:  Geometric pottery popular in Greece.

776 BC:  Founding of the Olympic Games.

725 BC onwards:   Eastern animals and patterns become popular in Greek art.

 

600 - 480 BC:  THE ARCHAIC PERIOD

490 - 479 BC:  The Persians invade Greece.

447 - 438 BC:  The building of the Parthenon at Athens.

431 - 404 BC:  The Peloponnesian War, fought between alliances led by Sparta and Athens.
