Get Involved
There are many ways in which people of all ages can get involved in the life of the Museum. There are opportunities for volunteers, work experience, and involvement in special projects. You can also join the Natural History Society of Northumbria, the owners of the Hancock Museum and its collections.
Volunteers
Volunteers can make an important contribution to the work of the Museum. If you would like to become a volunteer please contact us. You will be asked to complete an application form and attend an informal interview before being accepted.

Work Experience
The Museum is able to take a limited number of work placement students. You will be asked to complete an application form and attend an informal interview before being accepted.
Natural History Society of Northumbria
The Society was founded in 1829 and is one of the largest local natural history societies in Britain It owns the Hancock Museum and manages a nature reserve at Gosforth Park, Newcastle upon Tyne. The Society's aims are to promote and encourage the study and protection of flora and fauna in the north-east of England. A wide range of activities is covered, from lectures and field meetings for members to scientific research and publication of the Transactions, the yearly journal of the Society.
