Join artist Helen Petts and Beth Bates, Director of Bupa Great North Run Culture�� at Hatton Gallery as they talk about Helen Pett's exhibition Throw Them Up and Let Them Sing. Her digital film installation follows Kurt Schwitters' journey to the Lake District, via a remote island in Norway, escaping Nazi persecution during the Second World War. Exploring rhythms, textures, sounds and found objects within the landscape, intercut with leading free improvising musicians Phil Minton, Roger Turner, Adam Bohman and Sylvia Hallett, Petts' will talk about walking alone in remote sites over the course of a year; filming on a variety of tiny digital cameras; then editing in an empty mansion in the Lake District, and mastering the surround sound with Diamanda Galas's sound engineer.

Also showing is Sea Shanties, an earlier work by Helen Petts, focusing on the free improvisation of singer Phil Minton and percussionist Roger Turner, originally commissioned by Matt's Gallery, London.� Petts' blog can also be seen in the gallery or read online on http://helenpetts.tumblr.com/

Throw Them Up and Let Them Sing has been commissioned by the Unlimited programme, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.�
