2011 Print Awards Prizes Announced

The prize winners of the International Print Biennale’s 2011 Print Awards have been announced at a private awards ceremony on Saturday 24 September. The awards celebrate international artists working in the medium of print. Prizes were awarded by 2011 Print Awards selector, Patrice Cotensin, of Galerie Lelong, Paris. 

We are delighted to announce the 2011 prize winners:

Dawn Cole – V&A Purchase Prize
Marta Lech – Northern Print International Residency Prize and Clifford Chance Purchase Prize
Katsutoshi Yuasa – Northern Print Award
Rew Hanks – The Laing Art Gallery Purchase Prize
Farniyaz Zakar – Brigit Skiöld Memorial Trust Prize

Showcasing the best in new British and international printmaking, the International Print Biennale 2011 is an extensive programme of exhibitions, events, activities and an international symposium taking place across Newcastle and the North East. The 2011 Print Awards is the centrepiece of the 2011 International Print Biennale.

The 2011 selection panel includes Patrice Cotensin, Galerie Lelong, Paris; Peter Randall-Page, artist; and Mike Taylor, Paupers Press. They selected 47 international artists from over 650 entries to be exhibited at the Hatton Gallery, Laing Art Gallery and Northern Print from 17 September – 19 November 2011.

The 2011 Selectors

Born in Tours, France, in 1952, Patrice Cotensin worked as Professor of Modern Literature from 1973 – 86. In 1984 he founded and became Director of the Echoppe editions, a series of texts on the subject of art. He also founded and was Director of the Artothèque de Caen from 1986-90. He became a Director of the Galerie Lelong, Paris in 1990.

British artist born in 1954, Peter Randall-Page studied at Bath Academy of Art (1973-77) and over the past 25 years has gained an international reputation through his sculpture, drawings and prints. His work is held in public and private collections worldwide and is represented in the permanent collections of the Tate Gallery and the British Museum amongst others.

Michael Taylor is the founder of the Paupers Press, and co - founder of Standpoint, an artist run gallery, studio and educational charity based in Hoxton, London. He has taught at Central St.Martins, Norwich, Camberwell and the Royal College of Art, and has exhibited in both solo and group shows within the UK, Europe and the USA.
