must-see exhibition
Art in the time of Lough
04 Jan - 08 Feb 2012
To accompany the John Graham Lough exhibition, this display brings together a variety of nineteenth century art from the Hatton collection.
Highlights include Henry Raeburn's splendid Portrait of Mrs Brougham and French artist Louis-Léopold Boilly’s Portrait of a Boy, as well as prints by Whistler and Manet.
Many of the works have a strong north east connection, including Thomas H. Hair's depictions of Durham and Northumberland coalfields, coastal views by W.H. Charlton and William Cousens Way and paintings by Cullercoats artists Robert Jobling and Henry H. Emmerson. There's also a selection from the Hatton's important collection of Victorian colour prints.
