It’s not just through artists’ eyes that we can see the North East. To complement the views of the North East that can be found in the Laing’s paintings, people from across the North East took photographs, recorded their memories and made films and digital stories.
See how the Tyne, the Quayside and Newcastle have changed in a large projection in the gallery. Use the Northern Sprit touchscreens and sound bench to hear memories of growing up in a place of pits, coal trains and meadows, see views of the nature reserve that grew out of a disused mineworks and see photographs of the coast taken by those who live there today.
