The Great British Art Debate: John Martin Goes to Hollywood
14 Nov 2009 - 10 Jan 2010
What is British art?
What does 'British' mean to me?
Who owns all the paintings in our local galleries?
If I make art, am I a British artist?
This exhibition is an investigation into the influence John Martin's work has had on film-making, from Jason and the Argonauts (1963) to The Clash of the Titans (1981).
Film posters, on loan from the British Film Institute, will be on show alongside prints by John Martin and a screening of extracts from DW Griffith's Intolerance (1916).
Have your say:
Come and let us know which films you love and whether you think film-makers are influenced by Martin’s work.
