Learning

Tyne & Wear Museums is a powerful learning resource for the whole community. Through the work of our Learning Team we are increasing access to our outstanding collections through stimulating activities and programmes.

The Learning Team works with all museum and gallery visitors of all ages and abilities and backgrounds. The services offered by the Learning Team include the development of interactive, accessible and interpretative material for temporary and permanent exhibitions for all visitors.

Schools and Further Education

We can offer handling sessions, printed resources, taught sessions, outreach into the school, bespoke activities and exhibition interpretation. Tyne & Wear Museums has a dedicated website to help teachers deliver the National Curriculum in creative and inspirational ways. Find out more at on Schools Online (www.twmuseums.org.uk/schools)

Surestart and Early Years

There are a wide range of early years activities, events, bespoke projects, resources and spaces developed in partnership with family organisations. The Learning Team is dedicated to welcoming early years groups and working to develop more resources, exhibitions and events.

Families

There are lots of exhibitions and displays to make a great day out. We also develop inspiring family programmes and resources to help you enjoy and learn together. Look out for our brochure 'What's On for Children' containing a wide range of drop in activities and events across your favourite museums and galleries.

Communities

Activities such as concerts, volunteer opportunities and special events including Newcastle Science Festival take place throughout the year, as well as exhibitions in community galleries like the Laing Project Space and Sunderland Open Space.

Lifelong Learning

A wide range of talks, tours, handling activities, study days and classes for adults take place. Look out for the brochure 'Must See Exhibitions'. We also run CPD Sessions for teachers, keyworkers and museum educators.
