Moving to the North East
"Well, we moved the move from Birmingham, where we had lived for 40 years to the North East"
Well, we moved the move from Birmingham, where we had lived for 40 years to the North East, mainly because of the fresh air, and having made some major moves and left two daughters, their husbands and their three children behind, 200 odd miles behind, and retired, you need some way of getting to know people. We know people in the area because my husband’s got family in the greater area but not in South Shields.
So we did various things, he does art classes, and we then joined the National Trust, and I came, we came here on a visit, going home from here, my husband said, “well, why don’t you volunteer?” so I did. And I love it. It’s a wonderful way to meet people, some wonderful volunteers, absolutely fantastic, and the staff, and some of the visitors we get are really, really good fun. You can have fun as well as making people interested in what goes on here, and to explain some of the history to them, making sure they have fun and enjoying their visit, that, to me the great thing about it.
