"Well, I’m no good with engines, and I don’t particularly like heights"
Well, I’m no good with engines, and I don’t particularly like heights, I tend to get a bit of vertigo, so I concentrate on the Compass Room which has got a scale map of the coastline, the CCTV Camera, which is wonderful for people who can’t climb the tower, and I come straight on the cottage, because in the cottage there are a lot of things that remind me of childhood.
Bearing in mind I was brought up, my mother used to spend a lot of time at my uncle and aunt’s shop, which is around the corner, and sat and talk to the children about how the cheese, butter, lard, margarine, all the hard fats were cut from big blocks, and were put on greaseproof , wrapped and weighed. I can tell them how my mother used to bone a side of bacon with a knife, and slice it with a knife. I remember seeing a grate like the one in the cottage in another aunt’s house. It makes me sound even older than I am! Little, sort of, like even the thing like the toilet paper on the table, that’s a nice one, that was, that was a nice one, you used to try the blooming Bronco toilet roll.
