Bart Taylor

Bart was born in Cullercoats. He served part of an apprenticeship at Swan Hunters shipyard as a Shipwright. He broke his indentures to join the Royal Navy in 1941. He was demobbed in 1946 and joined the merchant navy. He came ashore and worked until he retired in 1982.
Bart was interviewed by Carl Greenwood on 1 March 2006. The interview took place at Cullercoats Community Centre and lasted 30 minutes and 24 seconds.

She fished, she went away with fish until she was in her late 70s, my Granny Hannah. My Granny Sally, the one I showed, the two of them standing at the door- she never fished but they had a fish business and were very, very… used to supply most of the hotels up in Newcastle, the big hotels, the likes of the Elsdon Grill, and the Station and all the big... The Turks.
They used to take orders for lobsters, crabs, salmon, codlings, and, well, sole, and whatever was going, like. And they had a pony and trap and my grandfather used to drive up to, and deliver, up the town, around Gosforth and all that, various days in the week. And it was, their business was purely and simply a fishing business.
