"The job that I had, which was charge hand shipwright in the naval yard"

The job that I had, which was charge hand shipwright in the naval yard, I got a chance of going away as an inspector for a firm that make hatch covers. It was a much better job and just supervising all the time, and travelled worldwide- America, Germany, well you name, America, Canada, Africa- wherever there were ships built and they wanted somebody to look at their hatch covers. That’s what, there was about four of us doing this job, like, you know. So I wasn’t much in Cullercoats, as it happened, at the time, like, but the money was good.
