"As an apprentice, I played for the Doxford Apprentices football team. We won quite a few cups"

As an apprentice, I played for the Doxford Apprentices football team. We won quite a few cups.

These leagues, the Sunderland area of leagues, you know, various Wearside Leagues, and all, I mean, all the factories round about had teams- football teams in these leagues, you know. There was quite a number of them. It was a great time. There were some nice football, there were some nice football fields within the town- Wearmouth in particular, across the other side of the river there, really, really good.

When you, when you won the cups and that, you see, it was always Doxford’s Apprentices, you know, win the all the charity cups, and another cup and the League. They were great, they were great times, they were.
