What does the sea mean to you?
"The sea? Oh, the sea is travel, living. There’s a lot of life in the sea, I’ve been a long way on the sea"
The sea? Oh, the sea is travel, living. There’s a lot of life in the sea, I’ve been a long way on the sea, and it’s nice to look at when the weather’s nice. As I say, for my wife’s family it’s provided a living. For about 400 years or something! And up until recently it was providing my son with a living, he’s only fishing part time now, but, yeah, it’s a lot of things to a lot of people, the sea, I mean.
There’s a lot of life, a lot of, it’s very nice to see when you stand on the front, or on the beach when it’s a nice day, you see the sea, the sea’s a nice colour when the sun’s shining off it, you see the boats going along, the ships on the horizon, people enjoying themselves. It’s all good. I wouldn’t move away from Cullercoats. I’ve been here 50 years, and I don’t think I’m going to move now.
