Volunteering with the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade
"Like all volunteer organisations, you will have a hard core who will turn up, you know, regularly"
Like all volunteer organisations, you will have a hard core who will turn up, you know, regularly. People who come to the brigade to see us, will see the same faces over and over again. When there are drill nights you will see more faces there, because people obviously turn up for the drills. When you, when we have a shout or a call out, you’ll see a lot more people there. People have different commitments to the brigade- the very young ones can get out at weekends. The old, people like me who have families and things to do at the weekend can’t always get away. But now the brigade is a mix of oldies, middlies and youngies. I class myself as a middley- not too old that I can’t do everything but old enough to step back and let the young ones do it if they really want to.
