Sand Competition at Tynemouth
"And I longed for a pair of roller-skates, I longed for a pair of roller-skates"
And I longed for a pair of roller-skates, I longed for a pair of roller-skates, and it was, I think it was the year of King George V’s 25th anniversary and there was a sand competition at Tynemouth and I won second prize there, and it was three and sixpence I got, three shillings and sixpence. I think the first prize was five shillings, and the second prize was three and six and my mother gave the other one and six and I got a pair of skates for five shillings. That’s about 25p now, isn’t it? That made my day, absolutely.
