"It’s a lot better now, you know, you’re talking on, maybe seven or eight years ago, it was atrocious"

It’s a lot better now, you know, you’re talking on, maybe seven or eight years ago, it was atrocious, actually, you know. We used to surf in a sea of pollution and it was really bad. It was, it was a different colour, you know, it smelt bad. Since the local sewer pipes have been disbanded out here, the sewage now is pumped up the road to Redcar, there in holding tanks and it goes down to Brands Sands which is treated now, so, I’d say 95% better than it used to be seven or eight years ago, you know. But we could still, you know, stop all of the pollution going in, and I do believe Northumbrian Water have got a major programme to all the North East beaches which effectively will clean the whole sea up, you know. I myself personally in the last seven years have seen a lot more sea life. I’ve seen more sharks, more dolphins, more porpoises and a lot more fish. I’ve even seen shoals of fish out to sea which I know seven years ago I wouldn’t even have seen, you know, so, yes, you do see more. The sea life was probably still out there, but you didn’t actually see it, so it is a major difference.
