"Generally there are two competitions held at Saltburn"

Generally there are two competitions held at Saltburn. Usually one in spring and one in, one in the autumn. The spring one is usually a bit more low key, you know for just local people. Sometimes there’s a longboard event, we’ve been putting on a longboard event against Scarborough Surf Club and you know, and Saltburn Surf Club. And we got one next April. And the one in the autumn, you know, that’s been running for 20 years run by Nick and myself. And again, it’s, you get about maybe 60, 70 surfers enter that one, you know. And that one’s a bit more open so you do get travelling surfers enter that one as well.

A longboard contest is really for people who just ride longboards, which is a board nine foot and over. And it’s a different speciality event, it’s, it ranges from the old days, when, you know, sixties, you know, the older surfers just used to ride longboards up to about eleven foot long. And, you know, you can walk the board, hang 10, you know, things like that, do Quasimodos and just, it’s a bit more fun and a bit more laid back. You do find the longboarding community of the surfers are probably a more laid back bunch.

The Endeavour Competition- that was a competition with the Endeavour Trophy against, Scotland against the North East which ran for a couple of years and I think us in the North East won it every time, I think, you know, so, but. I don’t know where the cup’s gone, it’s disappeared now, but maybe that’s something for the future, again.
