George Cruickshanks

George was born in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. His name changed to Geordie Beard when he joined Doxfords in 1957. George describes his time at Doxford's as a pleasure.

"George Cruickshanks, also known as George, or Geordie Beard"

George Cruickshanks, also known as George, or Geordie Beard. I got that name when I first started at Doxford’s in 1957. Beards were non-existent. I was an oddity, I didn’t mind that. One of the foremen labelled me Geordie Beard and it just stuck and for years they still do, and people think of me as Geordie Beard rather than George Cruickshanks, I don’t mind.
