The smell of whale oil
"There would just be a general smell of oil and the department I worked in, on machining"
There would just be a general smell of oil and the department I worked in, on machining, the cutting fluid and lubricant and coolant used to enable, carry out machining operations was whale oil. And this stuff used to have a distinctive sort of smell and also it used to get into your skin and you used to stink.
