Strike at Doxford's
"Anyway, while I was there, there was a strike, the men had a strike in 1957"
Anyway, while I was there, there was a strike, the men had a strike in 1957. Well, obviously being an apprentice, you couldnít go out on strike- it wasnít allowed. So what the foremen did, they got the boys together and gave them jobs, and the boys in the wrecking shop went on to build the engine. And we were working on the engine for about a Ė well, while the strike lasted and we did a very good job, actually, under supervision of the foreman, of course. But we did very well. Anyway the men came back, the strike was settled and everything went back to normal.
