"Most of it is on the station. You learn your knots first before you can go off on the boat"

Most of it is on the station. You learn your knots first before you can go off on the boat. Once you’re competent at that, they’ll take you in the boat once you’ve passed your medical obviously to make sure you’re fit and well. And from there you just learn, you watch, you learn, you pick up bits. Back up at the station, you do a lot of training on the boat and again how to fasten things off, how to make sure things are safe when you’re towing and various other aspects. But most of it is watching and learning, and picking up and following the task book- there’s a set task book and when you’re competent at that bit you’ll be signed off for it.
