Yes, well, Lewis Carroll spent some time in this area. His sister was married to the vicar at Southwick in Sunderland and his cousin, she was married to the vicar at Whitburn. And whilst he was staying at Whitburn he wrote the poem called The Walrus and the Carpenter. And this poem was published the year after the lighthouse was opened, and this poem appears in Alice through the Looking Glass.
And if you read the poem, the first couple of verses are about the moon being upset because the sun is shining in the middle of the night and it has no business to be shining in the middle of the night. And that is said to be Souter Lighthouse, the new, all electric lighthouse.
