The gansey patterns
"So you have one which was the original one which I made and that was purely for the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade"
So you have one which was the original one which I made and that was purely for the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and the other one which I made was a block pattern, more, more of a heavier block pattern with a twist down it and that one is for the Cullercoats Rocket one.
The different patterns are, if for some reason somebody didn’t have the lettering across the front it would mean that if they got, sort of, lost at, well, swept by the waves or anything like that, or if they got pulled off the rocks as they were busy rescuing somebody, for some reason, you know, they got hurt and it was dark or whatever and they passed out, it would mean that somebody would be able to recognise them by the pattern that was on the gansey.
