"Well, when the children were young, that’s what we used to go everyday"

Well, when the children were young, that’s what we used to do everyday. There was a crowd of us and there would maybe be about a dozen of us and we used to go down what we called Jakey’s Beach, never the town beach, it was always Jakey’s, and all the kids used to be together, and if you wanted to go and do a bit of shopping, you knew the kids were okay, you could go and do your shopping, or perhaps go and pop a meal on and time it, one would pop away and make a pot of tea and come down with all the tea and biscuits and the kids had a whale of a time. It was great, it was, I think.

Some days you couldn’t go down because of the weather but most days. I mean, they spent their life down there. And it was so safe because you were just sitting there, there was no way they could go but in front of you, you know, the sand and the water sort of thing, and the kids all brought, had great fun, you know, it was lovely.
