Role of the pilot
"Well, basically, a pilot is somebody who is taken on a ship to conduct the navigation in a confined area"
Well, basically, a pilot is somebody who is taken on a ship to conduct the navigation in a confined area. So, we work 12 hour watches, at the moment, I work 12, I work eight to 12 hour day watches, and then I go on to eight to 12 hour night watches, and then you get a period off. And our job is to go onboard ships and conduct them into the river, or sail them or move around the river. Legally, we are in charge of the navigation of the ship, now the master of the ship, the captain he is always in charge of the navigation of the ship, but he is required to give us the conduct of the ship, in other words, we are in charge of the navigation.
