My family didn’t believe in women going on the boats, but we used to get a ride. When I was a little girl, before the war, they used to do a trip to see the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, but I always went to sleep before we got there. I can’t remember seeing them, I can remember being carried along the pier to get into the boat, and being wrapped in a blanket, and I think I always went to sleep. You know, my sisters and my brothers and that, my younger brother wouldn’t, he can’t remember because the war started just as he was born. And as I say, we often went to see the Aurora Borealis but I’ve never seen it yet.
