Keith Halliday
Keith belongs to: The Doxford Engine Friends Association
Keith was born in 1938 and went to school in Ryhope. He began his apprenticeship at Doxford's in 1954 and moved to Palmers Hebburn in 1958. Keith spent seven years at sea as a marine engineer before he returned to work in the Doxford's Service Department in 1970.
Keith was interviewed by Carl Greenwood on 7 December 2005. The interview took place at Beamish Regional Resource Centre and lasted 22 minutes and 43 seconds.

I used to like the countries where they spoke English- the States is quite good, Australia, of course, New Zealand and Singapore’s nice. So not any real favourite, but I used to prefer where, where everybody, most people would speak English. Because I remember doing a job in Romania, where I was speaking English to a Romanian who spoke French and some English and he was translating into French to someone else who was then translating into Romanian so you can imagine how long the meeting went on and the number of mistakes that were made, but these are things that, you know, you had to have plenty of patience.
