"When the Tall Ships were coming in. There were two memorable trips last summer. The first one was the Mouth of the River Festival"

When the Tall Ships were coming in. There were two memorable trips last summer. The first one was the Mouth of the River festival- that was the first time I went to sail. I spent about three months before that making a mast and yard arm out of cut down telegraph poles and things and fitting the sail and fitting the rigging. We finished on the Monday before the weekend of the Mouth of River festival and on the Saturday morning motored out through the piers- luckily it was a nice calm day- flat sea and blue sky, blazing sunshine, just a gentle breeze and up went the sail. It was the first time I had it under sail and that was a very proud moment.
