Paul was born in Cullercoats. His family were in fishing and merchant navy. Paul got his first boat when he was 13. He has made a living from fishing and sign painting.

Paul was interviewed by Kylea Little on 1 December 2005. The interview took place at the Interviewee's workshop and lasted 38 minutes and 30 seconds.

It’s the one Bart Taylor made the hull for me and I like fitted it all out in 1999. Built that boat, that’s one I used to work close in, myself, that little boat, like. But it’s a grand little boat- it’s caught some lobsters.

I loved it, I really like it on my own, like. Just getting away out on a bonny morning there’s absolutely nothing finer, just go out, do your work and come in, have a nice day.
