Smells
"When I was a young lad, I can remember coming in the lifeboat house and sometimes the boat would be in the station for maybe six weeks at a time"
When I was a young lad, I can remember coming in the lifeboat house and sometimes the boat would be in the station for maybe six weeks at a time. And the smell of the polish that they used to use for the boat and the mixture of salt water and the diesel fumes used to, like, dwell in the station. And there was certain smell that I hadn’t smelt for a long, long time and when our boat’s been locked up for a few days as it has been anyway, there’s that smell. And it’s a smell that you’ll always remember from being a young lad, and it’s nice when you smell it. People may think it stinks, but it’s a pleasant smell to me.
