"The O’Neil British Nationals came three years ago"

The O’Neil British Nationals came three years ago, I guess it was maybe a trial to see if it would take off in the North East, but we’ve had so much good publicity about the waves we’re getting here that O’Neil were willing to give it a try, so they brought it up from Cornwall up to the North East three years in a row now, and it’s been absolutely brilliant. I think this last year was probably the best one we’ve done because we had very good conditions, the surf was great, the weather was nice and everybody made quite a lot of effort to really make it nice for the competitors, for the spectators, and kind of welcomed everybody into Tynemouth so it’s put it on the map a wee bit, but it went very well and I can see it continuing because of the success we had this time.

I’m kind of like a local organiser and just help to run the, the whole competition with the British Surfing Association and O’Neil themselves, along with North Tyneside Council also.
