"I came to Cullercoats in the mid 70s. My husband worked in the Dove Marine Laboratory"

I came to Cullercoats in the mid 70s. My husband worked in the Dove Marine Laboratory, and I wasn’t very keen, mind, Carl, because, he, to me, it’s alien coming to the coast- I’m a townie. And I put it off until my youngest son was sitting his O-Levels and then I allowed myself to be brought, “out in the sticks”, my eldest son called it. Best thing I ever did, actually, because I’m surrounded by people that are so friendly, you know.

I worked at the time so I didn’t get to know many people until my husband took ill in ’79, and then I was retired as they say. But I was sort of brought in gradually. I was asked to do a little job and they were very good at that in the village, you know.
