Call outs attended by Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade
"Varies, absolutely varies. I mean, we were out on Saturday for a surfer on the Bear’s Back"
Varies, absolutely varies. I mean, we were out on Saturday for a surfer on the Bear’s Back, which is a set of rocks just off the north end of the Long Sands. He’d been reported in trouble. Four life…four of the brigadesmen turned up to investigate- the lifeboat at Cullercoats was on standby, he wasn’t actually in trouble, he knew exactly what he was doing, he was surfing a barrel wave that occasionally happens there in certain sea conditions. He'd been doing it for 20 years.
