Summer Fun on its way to Monkwearmouth

This summer, Monkwearmouth Station Museum will welcome a fun filled exhibition of construction toys called Build it!.

Since the 19th Century, building and construction toys have been produced to stimulate and develop imagination and skills in children. Simple wooden building blocks led the way to more complicated toys as manufacturing techniques improved and people could afford to buy more.

In the 20th Century, Meccano, Lego and Airfix became household names and the story of these toys will be told in this interactive exhibition.

Build it! The Story of Construction Toys will be on display at Monkwearmouth Station Museum from 17 July - 26 September 2010. Free entry.
