Helen Petts - Merzbarn
Unlimited: Throw Them Up and Let Them Sing
28 June – 18 August 2012
This digital film installation by visual artist Helen Petts explores Kurt Schwitters’ journey to Ambleside in the Lake District via a remote island in Norway, when he escaped Nazi persecution because of his ‘degenerate’ art and his epilepsy. Positioned alongside Schwitters’ Merzbarn Wall in the Hatton Gallery, this film features improvised sounds by leading experimental musicians, including Phil Minton, Roger Turner, Adam Bohman and Sylvia Hallett.
Throw Them Up and Let Them Sing has been commissioned by the Unlimited programme, part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
