North East businesses raise over £50,000 for local museums

North East businesses have raised over £50,000 at a special event hosted by Fenwick Newcastle to raise funds for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums’ programmes for communities.

The fundraising event at Arthur’s Music & Dining Club, at Fenwick Newcastle, was organised by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums’ board member and trustee, Helen Cadzow and brought businesses together to network and enjoy lunch and entertainment, whilst raising vital funds to support work at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums’ learning and community programmes.

The museums and galleries attract around 1 million visits a year and share the stories of the North East region’s past and present. They engage over 150,000 children and young people via education programmes and care for 1.1million objects, artefacts and artworks preserving them for future generations to enjoy.

They also deliver targeted wellbeing programmes for some of the most disadvantaged communities in the region including homeless people, people with mental health problems, people living in poverty and people recovering from addiction.

Keith Merrin, Director of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to the businesses who attended the event and generously supported our learning and community programmes. £50,000 is a significant amount of money and will help us to continue to deliver programmes that ensure that everyone can engage with art, culture and heritage. We’re especially grateful to our brilliant Trustee Helen Cadzow who organised the event, to Miss Rory for being an amazing compère and also to the businesses that sponsored the event – Fenwick, Everything Managed Group, SPS Microgrids, Allies Group, Hypernorth, Rolton Group and Parkdean Resorts.”
