Archives


The Archives hold documents relating to Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland, dating from the 12th to the 21st centuries.

Archives are records produced by organisations and individuals in their day to day activities. The Archives keeps and preserves those which are of continuing interest for historical or other reasons. They include:

Drop-in access to the Archives

Most of the documents held in the Archives can be viewed at any time during opening hours. Access to some records is restricted so it is best to contact the Archives before visiting to check that the records you are interested in will be available.

Research service

The Archives offers a paid-for research service by its expert staff. More details of this service can be found here.
