On the 21st of June we all went on an archaeological dig. I was in a group with Alex, James and Katy. We found out we had two group leaders called Sam and Katie. They were students at Newcastle University. We started off slowly. Digging
Sieving  I got chosen to sieve. It was a little boring at first but just as I was finishing I saw a clump of mud with a little silver trim at the edge. Katy scraped the mud away with her fingernail and it was …it was…a Roman coin!!
Coin

Katie said she wasn’t sure if it was real or not. I doubt it is because Mrs Catling said that replicas have an extra letter on and mine did.
When we went out to the field the students had taken off the turf & they told us how to use a diamond trowel. So we started to scratch the surface of the soil and eventually I found a piece of broken jewellery.

When we were using the cameras at the pit, we took photos of nearly everything. I took photos of the sieving, the trowelling and even people. I took a photo of Alex (doing a cheesy grin!) and I did a photo of Courtney sieving.

When we found the stones we thought it might be from a path or someone’s floor. We thought it could be someone’s floor because of the coins and all the pottery and stuff.
